3.10 Website, Cookies, and Analytics Information

  • Pages visited
  • Time spent
  • Browser and device information
  • IP address
  • Cookie identifiers
  • Marketing campaign source
  • Form submissions
  • Analytics events

Analytics are optional and off unless you accept them. If you do, usage information is sent to our analytics provider under a pseudonymous identifier rather than your name or phone number, and it does not record which particular profile, conversation, or vendor you viewed. If you decline, no analytics are collected.

Payaam also uses an error-monitoring service so faults can be diagnosed. Personal information is removed from error reports before they are sent. This runs regardless of your analytics choice, as it is necessary to keep the Services working and secure.

Payaam uses two kinds of cookies, and they are treated differently.

Essential cookies keep you signed in and keep your account secure. The main one is a sign-in cookie that your browser cannot read from JavaScript, is limited to Payaam's own sign-in endpoints, and lasts up to 30 days. These are required for the Services to work, so they are always on and are not subject to consent.

Analytics cookies help us understand how the website is used, so we can fix what is confusing and improve the experience. These are optional and are switched off until you accept them. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not allow third-party advertising trackers on our website.

The first time you visit, we ask whether you are happy for us to use analytics cookies. Nothing optional is set before you answer, and choosing "Essential only" is as easy as accepting. You can change or withdraw your answer at any time using the "Manage cookies" link in the website footer. You can also control cookies through your browser settings, though some features may not work properly if essential cookies are blocked.

Our Cookie Policy lists every cookie by name, what it does, how long it stays, and who sets it.

4. How We Use Personal Information

We use personal information to:

  • Create and verify your account
  • Provide OTP login and authentication
  • Build, store, and display profiles according to visibility settings
  • Recommend suitable matches
  • Show limited or full profile details depending on access rules
  • Process interests, saved profiles, mutual matches, and journey stages

6. How Profiles Are Shown to Other Users

Payaam is not designed as a public searchable directory.

Your profile may be shown to other users based on match logic, visibility settings, membership rules, and platform policies.

Depending on your settings and the stage of interaction, other users may see:

  • Limited profile preview
  • Name or masked name
  • Age or age-related information
  • City/country depending on location visibility
  • Education and career summary
  • Family background summary
  • Cultural, lifestyle, or practice-related information you provide
  • Photos according to visibility settings
  • Compatibility or match reason tags
  • Contact details only after the applicable consent flow

We do not guarantee that every field will remain hidden in all contexts if you choose to share it in open text fields, chat, profile copy, or uploaded content.

7. Chat and Communications

Chat messages are stored to provide the messaging service, maintain conversation history, support reporting, and investigate abuse or safety concerns.

We may review chat messages if:

  • A user reports a conversation
  • We need to investigate abuse, fraud, harassment, impersonation, or policy violations
  • Required by law
  • Needed for platform safety or support

You should not share sensitive financial, personal, or confidential information in chat unless you are comfortable doing so.

8. Support Access and Impersonation Tools

To resolve support issues, authorised Payaam staff may access limited account information.

For high-severity issues, Payaam may use controlled support access or impersonation-style tools to see the product experience as the user or vendor sees it.

Such access is:

  • Restricted to authorised staff
  • Used only for support, debugging, fraud review, moderation, or platform operations
  • Logged with staff identity, reason, time, and scope
  • Shown with an internal support banner
  • Limited from exposing sensitive data unless required and authorised

Support access is not intended for casual browsing of user profiles.

9. Sharing of Personal Information

Payaam does not sell your personal information.

Payaam may share personal information with:

9.1 Other Users

Payaam may share profile information, communication status, and contact details with other users according to the app's visibility settings, match stage, consent rules, and membership rules.

9.2 Payment Service Providers

Payaam may share billing and transaction details with payment gateways, banks, UPI participants, and payment processors to process payments, refunds, invoices, fraud checks, and transaction status.

9.3 Vendors

Payaam shares very little with vendors. When you choose to contact a vendor, Payaam records that an enquiry was started and opens WhatsApp for you. The vendor sees a masked version of your name and the category and city the enquiry came from. The opening message is standard and contains no personal or rishta details.

Payaam does not pass your phone number to the vendor. If you continue the conversation on WhatsApp, your number becomes visible to them as it would in any WhatsApp chat you start. That conversation takes place outside Payaam and we cannot see it.

Vendors have no access to your biodata, your photos, your introductions, your chats, or any other part of the matrimonial side of Payaam.

9.4 Service Providers

Payaam may share information with trusted service providers who help operate the Services, such as:

  • Hosting providers
  • Cloud storage providers
  • OTP and SMS providers
  • Email providers
  • Push notification providers
  • Payment gateways
  • Analytics providers
  • Error monitoring providers
  • Customer support tools
  • Fraud prevention services
  • Content moderation tools

Service providers are expected to use information only for the purpose of providing services to Payaam.

9.5 Admins, Moderators, and Support Staff

  • Profile review
  • Photo review
  • Vendor approval
  • Support resolution
  • Fraud prevention
  • Safety investigation
  • Legal compliance
  • Payment support
  • Platform operations

9.6 Legal and Compliance

  • Comply with applicable law
  • Respond to lawful requests from courts, law enforcement, regulators, or government authorities
  • Protect Payaam's rights, users, staff, or the public
  • Investigate fraud, abuse, or security incidents
  • Enforce our Terms of Service

9.7 Business Transfers

If Payaam is involved in a merger, acquisition, investment, restructuring, financing, or sale of assets, user information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to appropriate safeguards.

10. Data Storage and Location

We may store personal information on servers in India or other jurisdictions, depending on our infrastructure and service providers, subject to applicable law.

Payment data may be subject to specific localisation rules in India. RBI's payment-data storage guidance states that payment data should be stored in India by authorised/approved payment system operators, subject to the applicable clarifications.

Where Payaam uses international service providers, your information may be processed outside India, subject to applicable law and contractual safeguards.

11. Data Retention

Payaam retains personal information only as long as necessary for:

Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to:

  • Access your personal information
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Complete incomplete information
  • Update your information
  • Request erasure of personal information
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
  • Submit grievances
  • Nominate another person where applicable under law
  • Delete or deactivate your account

To exercise these rights, contact Payaam at:

Support: support@payaam.in

Payaam may verify your identity before acting on your request.

13. Account Deletion

You can delete your account yourself from Settings. You do not need to email anyone or explain why.

Deletion runs on a 30-day recovery period. During those 30 days your account is deactivated and hidden from other users, and signing in restores it. After 30 days the deletion is finalised: your profile and photos are erased and the account cannot be restored. If you had an active subscription, its cancellation is scheduled at the same time.

A limited set of records is retained after deletion, where the law requires it or where removing it would affect someone else:

  • Payment, invoice, and tax records, which we are required to keep.
  • Safety and moderation records relating to reports.
  • Audit logs of administrative actions.
  • Messages you already sent remain visible to the person you sent them to.

If you cannot access the app, you can request account deletion from our public page without installing Payaam or signing in.

14. Children and Minors

Payaam is intended for adults who are legally eligible to use marriage-introduction services.

Users must not create accounts for minors or submit personal information of minors unless legally permitted and specifically allowed by Payaam policies.

If Payaam learns that a minor's personal information has been submitted in violation of this Privacy Policy, Payaam may delete it and suspend the related account.

15. Security Safeguards

Payaam uses reasonable administrative, technical, and organisational measures to protect personal information. These may include:

  • OTP-based authentication
  • Access controls
  • Role-based admin permissions
  • Audit logs
  • Encryption in transit
  • Secure storage practices
  • Limited staff access
  • Monitoring and logging
  • Abuse detection
  • Backup and recovery controls

No system is completely secure. You are responsible for keeping your device, phone number, OTPs, and account access secure.

16. Push Notifications, SMS, Email, and WhatsApp

Payaam may send:

  • OTPs
  • Account alerts
  • Profile review updates
  • Interest and match notifications
  • Chat notifications
  • Contact exchange notifications
  • Payment and billing messages
  • Support messages
  • Marketing messages, if permitted

You can manage notification preferences in the app or device settings. Some transactional messages may still be sent where necessary to provide the Services.

17. Marketing and Advertising

Payaam may use limited information to:

  • Measure campaign performance
  • Understand website traffic
  • Improve messaging
  • Show relevant Payaam promotions
  • Retarget website visitors where permitted
  • Analyse conversion from free to paid membership

Payaam does not sell your personal information to advertisers.

Vendor featured placements inside Payaam are governed by vendor and advertising policies. Vendors do not receive your personal contact information unless you submit an enquiry or otherwise consent.

19. Grievance Redressal

If you have a privacy concern, complaint, or request, contact:

Support: support@payaam.in

Payaam will respond within the period required under applicable law.

The IT Intermediary Rules, 2021 include due diligence and grievance-redressal requirements for intermediaries, with additional obligations depending on the nature and scale of the platform.

20. Changes to this Privacy Policy

Payaam may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.

When Payaam updates it, the "Last Updated" date will be revised. If changes are material, Payaam may notify you through the app, website, email, or another appropriate method.

Your continued use of the Services after the updated Privacy Policy becomes effective means you accept the changes.
